I won't and never would speak for Andrew, so I can't address those ML
archive points... but:

I've been using it on our production servers for a few months now with
apparently zero problems.  I'm running the 1.6.2 version for transfer
logs (not using it for error logs, send those to syslog).

I've found the following patches on the site worthwhile to apply:
cronolog-strftime-patch.txt
cronolog-large-file-patch.txt
cronolog-missing-symlink-patch.txt
cronolog-user-group-patch.txt
cronolog-sigusr1-patch.txt

But, that's just me.  Your mileage may vary.

Would suggest you just ask the questions.  I'll help if/as I can.
