logging multiple webservers to a central file - lost updates?

We currently use rotatelogs to log a couple web servers to the same logfile (on an NFS mounted disk)

There has been some speculation that records may be getting lost due to the webservers overwriting eachother in the logfile (lost update).

(webhits are down from year before – but there may be other reasons – also, someone saw a corrupt record once)

Can anyone confirm this is or is not the case with rotatelogs in apache 2.0.50 or cronolog?

I have not tried cronolog yet, but I like the directory creation feature.

Thanks,
